Top-notch Bags for Baseball
When you want to head out to a game with everything you need there’s no substitute for a professional-grade baseball bag. The question is where can you find one. A baseball bag needn’t be a difficult thing to find, and with my rundown of 5 superior baseball bags (plus my handy buyer’s guide), I’ll give you everything you need to find the right baseball bag with the click of a button!
Diamond Sports – Best Bat Bag
Diamond Sports are a brand that deserves to be in any conversation aimed at finding a great baseball bag.
They have been around for what seems like forever, their products last ages, and I really like how they stay true to the foundations of the great game of baseball!
So, why am I waxing lyrical about their latest offering and what do I think they could do even better? Let’s dive right in and take a look at the first entry on my list and see how it fared when I put it through its paces!
A Classic Brand
What I was really impressed by was how Diamond Sports are able to offer a comfortable range of storage without sacrificing comfort.
I have seen a few bags in the past that allow you to carry everything under the sun, but only if you’re willing to let stuff dig into your back, or have the straps rub and chafe your shoulders after just a couple of minutes of walking.
You could carry anywhere up to 5 full-size bats which I also really liked because it showed that the product had been designed by a team that knows the game of baseball inside out.
Fence Hooks
One thing I’m perhaps a little wary of our bags that claim they can stay upright of their own accord. When you take a step back and look at the shape of a baseball bag they’re quite long and thin; not ideal for standing on their end indefinitely!
- Fence hooks are easy to attach
- Durable stitching and hardwearing material
- Room for up to 5 full-size bats
- I would have liked to have had room for a catcher’s mitt
Final Verdict
All-in-all, Diamond Sports have hit a home run with their latest creation. There’s a ton of storage for just about everything you need, although you may struggle to fit in a catcher’s mitt without deforming it.
That is not a big drawback as not everyone will need to take one to the ballpark, but it would have been nice to at least have an external strap you could attach one to if need be.
Louisville Slugger – Top for Baseball
Louisville Slugger is a brand that speaks the language of baseball in my opinion.
That’s why I had to make sure they made it onto my list as we go in search of the top baseball bag your money can buy.
What I like is that they pay attention to all the little things that go into making a product as good as it possibly can be. That allows you to end up with a bag that in my opinion does the job as good as any on the market.
Time To Get Slugging
The first thing that impressed me was the durability of the stitching. In a lot of bags where you’re pulling heavy items in and out you will soon see the stitching start to give up.
That can be a real shame because you then have to choose between paying out for a new bag or staying loyal to what you already have.
There were no abrasions so I took this to mean that the fabric would last for years to come if you decide to go with a Slugger.
Storage Options
I could store two full-size bats with ease which was nice, although a few others on this list have room for a lot more. I was impressed by the valuables pouch.
The final thing that I’d like to draw your attention to is the sling-style shoulder strap. I found it extremely comfortable and it offered a different carrying position to a number of the other bags that I tried during my research.
- Comes with a built-in fence hook for easy hanging
- I found the sling-style shoulder strap very comfortable and easy to take on and off
- Enough room to fit a full-size helmet and face mask
- I would have liked to have had room for more than two bats. Often this is all you need to get your score up, but given that a few of the other options out there can accommodate twice as many I think that this is something the Slugger team may want to look at in the future
- One thing I found was that the bottom pouch was a little tricky to close when the rest of the bag was full. My concern with this would be that forcing it shut could shorten the lifetime of the zip and leave you with a bag with less than adequate storage if you could no longer close it
Final Verdict
Louisville Slugger create products that I really like, and this bag is no exception. I found the bag to be comfortable and easy to use, but if I were ultra-critical, I would say that it might just be a little bit behind some of the others on this list regarding the total storage that it can offer you.
I think some of you may wish to carry more than the two bats that it can accommodate, and there is the risk I have highlighted above about struggling to be able to close the bottom zipped compartment safely.
Tanel 360 – Great Wheeled Bag
Tanel 360 is a name that you may not have grown up with, but from what I have seen they are starting to make a real impact on the scene.
What I like about their approach is that they’re not afraid to do things differently.
From my first glance at the RAGE bag, I could see that they’d firmly put their stall out with the look and feel of their products.
That instantly gave the impression of a baseball bag that is prepared to cater for any and all of your needs. By having a selection of different sized pockets, it allowed me to find a home for all the little bits and pieces that I love to take to the ballpark.
That was very handy because it stopped me having to squeeze everything into a single central compartment and then spend time rummaging around trying to find what I was looking for.
Innovative Storage
One thing that can be a little bit annoying with any sports bag, not just a baseball bag, is that there is often no designated place to store your water. The RAGE bag uses a couple of elastic straps on the outside to store your water bottles.
At first, I thought they might not be up to the job and would drop my water the moment I started wheeling the bag, but I’m happy to say that I was wrong on that count! I think that you’ll appreciate being able to get your drink right away as I did.
It just makes life that little bit simpler so that you can focus on the game at hand!
Removable Divider
Something I have always struggled with is how to keep my dirty kit separate from my clean kit. Often what I have done in the past is settle for a plastic bag and use that to bundle up all my dirty clothes.
- An innovative approach to storage that gives you a range of choice
- I liked how easy it was to store my water on the outside of the bag
- In my opinion, the velcro divider is a nice touch that helps you separate your clean kit from your dirty kit
- One thing I did find is that the wheels were a little bit unsteady at times. I’m not sure that this was because I was unintentionally overloading the bag. As with all wheeled bags, the wheels could always be a little bit bigger, and I think that the RAGE bag is no different. This isn’t a big deal though, and I’m sure that many of you will do what I did and just carry it
Final Verdict
I like that the RAGE bag has so many options for storing kit in different places. This made it really easy for me to find what I was looking for without the hassle of searching for several minutes.
The drink storage, in particular, was a nice touch because it allowed me to quench my thirst and then get straight back into the game. Highly recommended for the player who likes to be able to put their hands on anything and everything in the heat of the moment so that they can focus on the game.
Boombah – for Catchers
If you’re like me, then you will want to know more about this baseball bag based on its name alone.
I liked the overall construction of the bag because when I picked it up, I could feel that it was heavy duty and designed to stand the test of time.
I’m not someone who focuses too much on finding a bag that’s lightweight because my thinking is that I’m just going to put as much into it as I can anyway. If you think the same, then I’d encourage you to keep reading about this entry and see what you think for yourself!
Durable and Well Thought Out
The Boombah was different in that it was clearly a bag that has been designed by people who play the game themselves. Another thing that caught my eye was the integrated top compartment.
I liked this because it allowed me to keep my dirty kit separate so that I didn’t have to clean out the entire bag after every game. There is also a large bottom compartment that you can comfortably fit a helmet and glove inside.
That was really nice to see because it showed me that this is a bag that I would recommend to all players, not just specific positions on the field.
Simple and Comfortable
My research and lifetime playing the game have taught me one thing: people are very particular about how they carry their bag! That has led to all manner of creative and futuristic looking options on the market, with some working better than others.
What I prefer to see is a simple idea perfectly executed, and I think I am right in saying that this is what I found on this occasion! The handles fit my hands nice and snuggly, and because they came with a little bit of padding they didn’t dig into my hands right before I went in to bat!
- Beautiful range of colors that you can use to show support for your team
- Durable and tear resistant stitching and material
- Gets all the basics right by ticking every box
- One thing I feel I should highlight is that while it can accommodate up to four bats, the lining of the compartments does look quite thin to me. In my opinion, this means there is a risk that you may tear it one day if you’re quite rough when it comes to storing your bats at the end of a game
Final Verdict
What impressed me was how well the Boombah did all the little things right. To me, it doesn’t look like a bag that is trying to reinvent the wheel.
Instead, it focuses on covering all the basics and doing them the right way. I liked how the material felt in my hand the moment it arrived.
It reassured me that I’d found a bag I could recommend to you guys that wouldn’t rip or tear midway through your first season. Highly recommended for the player who likes to keep everything in its place and wants a simple and well thought out solution that looks like it will last for season after season!
Under Armour – for Baseball Equipment
Under Armour is a brand that has entered the game with a big reputation, so I was really excited to see what their latest creation had to offer.
The first thing that caught my eye was the shape of the bag; it’s noticeably different to a number of the other entries on my list which I thought was interesting.
Uncompromising Storage
One thing that became unapparent the moment I unboxed this bag in my lounge is that it had had a lot of input from people who actually play the game.
The last thing I want to do is recommend a bag that is essentially just a gym bag with room for a bat, so I was delighted that I could round off my list with a fifth option that will give you plenty of food for thought. One thing I have paid a lot of attention to is the issue of how comfortable each bag is when it is bursting full of kit and equipment.
I always think that if a bag holds its shape and feel great across your shoulders when it is full, then this is a great indicator that you have found the right option for you. I’m pleased to say that because of how easy it was to adjust the straps I wasn’t left feeling disappointed.
With a couple of little tweaks, I was able to carry my kit in comfort which was refreshing.
Room For a Helmet
I always like to get my helmet out and try and fit it in a bag when I’m shopping around because its one of the few bits of kit you simply cannot bend or fold into shape!
I also think that you’ll be able to carry everything you need with room left to spare. This could prove really handy because it will give you some leeway when you come to search through to the bottom of the bag in search of what you need in between plays.
- I liked how simple and easy it was to use the bat storage
- Durable material that doesn’t scuff too easily when laid out on the ground
- Enough space for a helmet and a mitt!
- While there is a valuables compartments which is, really good, my only concern is that it is quite overtly positioned on the top of the bag. If you are of the cautious persuasion and like to make sure that your phone is well hidden from view, then it may be worth handing it to friends and family rather than leaving it in the valuables compartment. I know I’m being ultra-critical here, but I have to suggest some improvements don’t I…
Final Verdict
A comfortable do-anything carry-anything bag that I think will work for a lot of baseball players. I found the overall construction to be highly durable, and I liked how easy it was to search amongst my kit in-between plays.
That allowed me to keep my head in the game and focus on getting the win for my team! Highly recommended for the player who is serious about taking their game to the next level in all areas!
Bags for Baseball – Buyer’s Guide
Now that I’ve shown you what you can get for your money in terms of baseball bags, it’s time for me to address a few of the questions you may have on your mind. My handy buyer’s guide is the quick and easy way to get the answers you need so that you can find the right solution for you!
Contents:
Do I Really Need a Baseball Bag?
If you play baseball, then you certainly do in my opinion. I wouldn’t be without one just because of the piles of kit and equipment I need to carry.
It’s okay chucking everything loose in the trunk of your car, but when you get to the park and are ready to play, you’ll be the guy carrying armfuls of stuff back and forth and then dumping it all on the ground frantically searching for your cleats when everyone else is already limbering up.
Do The Pros Use Them?
By keeping everything to hand you’ll be able to take things to the next level. I found that merely by always having my water on hand I was able to concentrate better at, bat in the later stages of the game; particularly in those stiflingly hot summer months!
How Can I Judge Whether a Bag Will Last for Years?
I always pay a lot of attention to the quality and thickness of the material. In general, if the material feels limp and lifeless in your hand then your kit will make short work of it, and you’ll have tears before the season is out.
Why Not Go With My Favorite Sports Brand?
If you have a brand that you swear by for everything then that’s great for regular purchases like running shoes and sweatshirts. What I would say is that a baseball bag is a different animal.
You want to be buying more than your favorite style and logo. You need something that will accommodate all of the sport-specific needs you would expect from something that is designed to carry everything you need on game day.
That’s why I’m hoping my list (above) will help you out a lot. By choosing five specialist brands, I’ve tried to make everything a little less about the style and fashion side of things.
You’ll love it at first, but when you start having to carry more and more of your kit to batting practice in your arms you’ll probably start shopping around for something a little more practical!
Tell Me More About Bat Storage
Carrying multiple bats is something that every aspiring minor leaguer or neighborhood home run king should do. It gives you options when you get to a crucial stage of the game which is excellent; the only issue is how to carry them to the game and how many you really need.
I personally take 3-4 bats, but in reality, you’ll be just fine with just two if you’re just starting out.
By being able to swap in a bat with a different feel and hitting response, you’ll be able to see for yourself how much difference your choice of bats make. Furthermore, because you can do that midway through the game, you’ll be able to test things out in a live situation.
Meaning, you can give that pitcher who is desperately trying to strike you out a game.
If you’re just starting out, I would suggest you look for a bag that allows you to store multiple bats, but doesn’t sacrifice storage for the other essentials like a helmet and a catcher’s mitt.
Are Wheeled Bags Essential?
No not especially because it’s more of a personal choice. For junior players, a wheeled bag can be an excellent choice because it allows them to take their kit from A to B without having to struggle to pick everything up and sling it over their shoulder.
Given the rotational stress baseball places on the core and lower back, this can be really important in avoiding injury. That said if you’re an adult player then a wheeled bag is not essential.
With a whole host of options out there it really is up to you which way you decide to move your kit around.
